THE SHORT ANSWER

Should I choose separate dip bars or a connected dip station?

Compare the handle spacing you need, complete base footprint and the approved setup for each exercise. Separate bars allow positioning choices, while connected frames define a particular relationship between the handles; neither format is universally preferable.

Separate bars let you choose their spacing for supported floor-level bodyweight work, and the pair can be moved out of the way after training.

Start with handle spacing and height

The distance between handles determines the position available for your hands. Check whether the spacing is fixed, adjustable through a designed mechanism or set by positioning separate bars. Record handle height and diameter as well, because a comfortable spacing does not guarantee sufficient body clearance.

Choose dimensions for the exercises you have been taught and can use appropriately. Do not copy another person’s setup from a photograph, especially when their height and movement differ from yours. If fit is uncertain, compare detailed drawings or ask the manufacturer for missing measurements before ordering a frame that cannot be adjusted after it arrives.

Compare the bases under the handles

Separate bars may appear compact, but their feet extend in directions the handles do not. Draw both bases at the intended spacing and check how much floor they occupy together. A connected frame may introduce a crossbar that affects foot position or entry, so include that in the layout.

The Lebert Equalizer product page provides an example of a paired-bar system and links its manuals. Use the exact manual to identify permitted arrangements and exercises. Do not treat a system shown in a creative workout video as approval for every sideways, stacked or uneven configuration.

Plan how you enter and exit

A station’s use area includes approaching the handles and returning to the floor. Check whether the base lies where your feet need to go and whether nearby furniture limits the transition. A setup placed close to a wall may physically fit while making normal access awkward.

Do not use a nearby chair or a loose stack of mats as an improvised step. If an access aid is appropriate, choose one suitable for the task and position it according to its instructions without compromising the station. A good room layout lets you complete the intended entry and exit with clear space throughout.

PUT IT INTO YOUR PLAN

Equipment comparison

Put product facts and buying checks side by side.

Read exercise permissions, not only load limits

Dip bars are sometimes marketed for rows, push-ups and other bodyweight exercises. Verify each intended movement against the model instructions, because loading direction and support arrangement can differ. A stated capacity does not approve swinging or added loads without further conditions.

Use the required floor surface and perform assembly and inspection checks as directed. If a foot loses full contact, a bar shifts or a connection loosens, stop and resolve it through the manufacturer guidance. Adding weight to the base, bridging separate bars or using an improvised connector is not a generic stability solution.

Compare the after-session workload

Ask how the equipment is meant to be stored and whether separate bars can nest without damaging their grips or feet. A connected station may stay assembled in a dedicated area, while another design may need a designated cupboard or wall location. Include the effort of moving it safely between those positions.

If a pull-up station already has a compatible dip attachment, compare its handle geometry and working space with a separate pair. That may avoid adding a second frame for the same task. For a separate purchase, confirm whether the listing supplies both bars or one connected station before comparing package prices.

More questions, answered.

Can separate dip bars be placed at any angle?

Use only arrangements allowed by the exact manual. Freedom to move the bars does not approve every loading direction.

Can I hang extra weight from any dip station?

Only if the manufacturer permits added loading and the complete configured system remains within all stated requirements.
