Identify the machine before the maintenance

Find the model, serial number and revision information, then download the matching manual. Product names can remain familiar while parts and instructions change. BowFlex maintains an official manual index, which is a useful starting point for that brand. Keep a local copy of the relevant manual and any manufacturer updates with your purchase records. Build the maintenance list from its actual instructions. Do not combine advice from a compact seated device, a different generation of standing elliptical and an online video into a single routine unless the manufacturer confirms it applies.

Separate cleaning from adjustment

Cleaning accessible surfaces is different from opening covers, tensioning a mechanism or adjusting moving parts. Identify which jobs the manual assigns to the owner and which require service. Follow its shutdown and power-disconnection instructions first. Use the stated cleaning method and avoid spraying unknown products into moving joints or electrical openings. A clear division makes routine care easier to maintain and helps prevent a minor symptom from becoming an improvised repair project.
