What is an FID weight bench?
FID means flat, incline and decline. Confirm the exact backrest angles, seat settings, support hardware and position-specific limits. An adjustable bench can offer many settings while still lacking decline, so read the angle list rather than relying on the product category.

Translate the angle list into intended positions
Flat is the horizontal backrest position. Positive angles raise the backrest above horizontal, while negative angles indicate decline. A high positive angle may be described as upright even when it stops short of ninety degrees. Record the actual published values to compare like with like.
Do not assume that a list of numbered notches represents degrees. Some products label settings sequentially. Save the matching angle chart where it can be consulted without reaching behind the backrest during an adjustment. Use the manual or specification diagram to connect each notch to its intended angle. A phone reading on an unloaded pad can be a rough reference, but it is not a replacement for documented settings or correct assembly.
Seat settings affect whether an angle is useful
The backrest angle alone does not describe the complete position. The seat may adjust independently, and its angle can affect how you stay located on the bench. Check the combinations permitted by the manual and how they change the gap and support surfaces.
Rogue lists backrest angles from zero to eighty-five degrees on the Adjustable Bench 3.0, with separate seat settings. That makes it an example of a bench with multiple positive-angle options. The decision should be whether the required positions exist, not whether the product has the highest combined count of possible seat and backrest combinations.
Decline is a configuration, not a label
Some benches obtain decline through a different support post or accessory. Others incorporate it into the main adjustment range. Identify what is included in the selected purchase and which components must be fitted or changed. A photo showing decline may depict an optional version rather than the base configuration.
REP offers the AB-5200 2.0 with fixed or adjustable post configurations; its adjustable post adds decline options. REP’s AB-3000 2.0 is described as an FID bench with built-in leg rollers. These examples illustrate different arrangements, not interchangeable attachment systems or a requirement that every decline design use identical hardware.
Equipment comparison
Put product facts and buying checks side by side.
Verify body retention and load limits
Read the manufacturer’s instructions for getting onto, using and leaving a decline position. Check whether a restraint or leg support is required and whether it fits your intended setup. Do not improvise a decline angle by raising a bench foot on a loose block or stack of plates.
Review the load rating for the exact position and attachment. A maximum quoted for flat use may not apply at an angle. Keep the frame, adjustment mechanism and required supports fully engaged as instructed. Buying more angles only helps if those positions can be used within the model’s complete instructions.
Pay for the angles that solve a real need
Mark required angles in your routine and separate them from possibilities you have not decided to use. Someone who needs flat and a moderate incline may not benefit from a decline attachment that occupies the front foot area. Someone who specifically needs decline should remove flat-incline-only models from the shortlist early.
For each shortlisted bench, put the required backrest and seat positions beside the exact included post and retention hardware. Remove a candidate if reaching a needed position requires an unavailable or unsupported component. That check is more useful than adding up every advertised setting.
More questions, answered.
Is an eighty-five-degree bench defective because it is not vertical?
No. Some benches are intentionally designed to stop at eighty-five degrees. Compare that published setting with your required use.
Can I create decline by lifting one end of a flat bench?
Do not improvise supports to create an unapproved configuration. Choose a bench and accessories explicitly designed for the intended position.
