Can an under-desk elliptical replace a standing elliptical?
Treat an under-desk elliptical as a distinct seated device. Check the specific model’s permitted use, the moving knee clearance under your desk and whether your chair stays in a workable position. Its compact case does not establish the full space needed for a person to pedal.

Start with the permitted use
Cubii’s support guidance states that its ellipticals are for seated use and should not be stood on. That distinction matters more than a general product label such as compact trainer. A low machine without a full frame is not automatically intended to support a standing user. Read the instructions for the model you are considering, including any restrictions on seating and setup. Do not use a support answer for a different device as permission to change how yours is used. Seated movement and standing elliptical motion are different purchase decisions.
Check knee clearance in the working chair
Cubii’s desk-fit guidance calls for at least 2–3 inches between the knees and the underside of the desk. Treat that as the cited brand’s setup guidance and check the exact model instructions as well. A drawer, keyboard tray or support rail can be the limiting underside obstruction even when the desktop itself is high enough.
Sit in the chair and footwear you will actually use. During an allowed trial, check the moving knee position through the pedal cycle while keeping ordinary access to the keyboard. Raising the chair to clear the machine is not a useful solution if it leaves the desk at an awkward working height.
Test the chair and pedals as one arrangement
A rolling or swivelling chair can move while you pedal. Follow the device’s chair-stabilization instructions, if supplied; do not improvise a restraint. Try the position needed to reach both the pedals and the work surface. If the machine slides away or you continually pull yourself forward, the complete workstation needs attention.
For a shared desk, note the chair height and machine position for each user. This is one of the practical tradeoffs in a shared office and gym: a compact device can still require a different seating arrangement from ordinary desk work.

Place equipment footprints and allow space to use them.
Test the work you actually do
Reading, attending a call and performing precise mouse work can place different demands on attention and posture. During a permitted trial, use the device for the tasks you expect to combine with pedalling and note whether the arrangement remains practical. Assess sound in the actual room if calls are important; a silent-room impression in a showroom does not reproduce a microphone on the desk. Avoid buying on a promise that you will use the device continuously. A specific, realistic use case is easier to evaluate than an ambitious daily movement target.
Give it a reachable parking place
Check the unit’s weight, carrying point and permitted storage orientation before choosing an under-desk corner. The parking spot should leave room for your feet when you are not pedalling and should be reachable without repeatedly dragging the unit by a pedal. Leave access for the cleaning points described in the manual. A device you can leave conveniently beside the chair may suit the routine better than one you must lift into a cupboard after every call.

Can I stand on a Cubii elliptical?
Cubii’s cited support guidance says to use its ellipticals while seated and never stand on them. Check the instructions for your exact model.
Is desk height enough to judge fit?
No. Include the chair, user, moving knees and the lowest underside obstruction, plus the manufacturer’s specified clearance.
