Obtain the shipping information early

Ask for carton count, dimensions, weights, pallet details, and the size of the largest nonseparable component. Distinguish shipping dimensions from assembled dimensions. A product may fit through the room door after approved assembly inside, while its carton cannot make the same turn. Another may contain a large preassembled component that sets the real access limit.

Read the assembly manual before assuming parts can be removed. Do not dismantle mechanisms or structural connections simply to make delivery possible without manufacturer approval. Keep the exact model and generation attached to the information you collect.

Measure every part of the route

Start at the delivery point and move toward the final position. Record gate widths, steps, door clear openings, hall corners, stair widths, landing sizes, and the lowest overhead points. Measure the usable opening with the door in its actual open position, not just the nominal door size.

Check both horizontal and vertical turns. A long carton can pass a straight doorway yet fail on a landing because its end cannot swing around. A stairwell ceiling may block tilting. Include the space required for the people and equipment handling the load, rather than calculating a tight geometric fit with no working room.

Use a light dimensional mock-up

For uncertain turns, use cardboard or a light frame to represent the largest component's dimensions. Keep the rehearsal safe and avoid damaging walls. This can identify obvious geometry problems, but it does not establish that a heavy item can be maneuvered by the same method.

If the move is close or involves substantial weight, ask a qualified mover to assess it. Provide the component weights and permitted handling positions. Do not rely on a room-planner diagram to determine safe lifting technique, stair capacity, or the suitability of moving equipment.

Clarify the delivery service

Confirm whether the service is curbside, threshold, room-of-choice, or another specifically defined arrangement. Ask what is included for stairs, assembly, packaging, and failed access. Arrange any additional handling before dispatch. Confirm delivery appointments and access instructions through the seller's process. Keep a dry, secure staging area available if parts cannot go directly into the room. A promised delivery date is not a complete installation plan.

Inspect, assemble, and preserve the exit plan

Arrange the final inspection and assembly area before arrival so cartons do not block the measured route. Protect finished floors using a method compatible with both floor and equipment.

Save the carton dimensions and approved disassembly information for removal. A doorway alteration or new storage unit may later obstruct the route that worked on arrival. Mark any turn that depends on separating a particular component, and keep the relevant manual step with the route sketch.
